A personalised book about a wedding

Flowers in the hair, rings on a cushion and a party where your child has an important job. Your child is the hero, drawn from your photo.

Why the theme A wedding makes a good book

An adventure that suits the child

A wedding is a grown-up party where children are often given a proper job. They walk at the front of the procession scattering petals, carry the rings on a cushion or hold up a long train, and suddenly everyone is looking at them. That can be thrilling and a little bit frightening at the same time. A book about the wedding lets your child rehearse their part and see themselves get it right. If it is your child's own parents getting married, the book becomes something more – a story about the day the family promised to belong together, with your child on every page.

Rings, speeches and cake

A wedding book can hold the whole day: the getting ready, with outfits to try on, the ceremony where your child has their job to do, the meal with long speeches and a cake several tiers high, and the dancing that goes on until your child falls asleep under a table.

The story can also have a small problem to solve – a ring that rolls away, a bouquet left at home, a shower threatening the photos – which your child sorts out before any grown-up has time to worry.

A wedding can be small, too: a ceremony at the register office with five guests and ice cream afterwards. The story is just as lovely for it, and your child's job might be to hold the flowers or blow bubbles as the couple come out.

Who is getting married?

Tell us who is getting married and how your child is connected to them: mum and dad, two dads, an aunt, a neighbour your child knows well. Say where it is happening, in a church, a register office or a garden, and what your child's job is. The couple can appear in the book as characters.

Details like the colour of the dress or suit, a song that will be played or the place where the couple met bring the text to life. If a stepparent is now becoming family on paper as well, the book can say what that means to your child, in your child's own words.

Before the day and after

Read a few weeks beforehand, the book helps your child understand what is coming and in what order. Little ones need short lines about walking slowly, smiling and sitting down next to someone they know. Children between six and nine like overcoming an obstacle, and an older child can give a little speech of their own in the story.

A child in the bridal party is traditionally a page boy or a flower girl, or simply the ring bearer – and plenty of children have firm views on which title they want. Read the book again once the photos from the day have arrived and compare them picture by picture.

Your child is the hero

You fill in the child's name, age and what they like, and upload a photo. The story about a wedding is written for your very own child, and the thirteen pictures and the cover are drawn from the photo in the style you choose. Brothers and sisters, parents, grandparents or the pet can come along, up to five characters. If you would like to include something that has happened lately, a trip or a lost tooth, just write it and it is woven in.
